The Luxembourg film industry is rather small because of small Luxembourg's size (there are only 400,000 inhabitants there). But the list of Luxembourg movies made by foreign directors is huge. Some truly Luxembourg films were critically acclaimed. Such film as Dammentour by Paul Scheuer and Hochzäitsnuecht (Paul Cruchten) won awards at the Max Ophüls Festival in Saarbrücken in 1993. A number of historical movies were shot there. Luxembourg retains his historical charming. The film Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) directed by Peter Webber, starring Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson was made in Luxembourg and was nominated for three Academy Awards. Another movie which was partly produced in Luxembourg was The Merchant of Venice (2004) directed by Michael Radford, with Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Joseph Fiennes, Lynn Collins. This film is based on Shakespeare's romantic drama with the same name. Who's Quentin? (2005) is a Luxembourg film written and directed by Sacha Bachim.
