The famous directors Luis Buñuel, Pedro Almodóvar, Segundo de Chomón, Florián Rey, Luis García Berlanga, Juan Antonio Bardem, Carlos Saura, Julio Médem and Alejandro Amenábar made best Spanish movies recognizable and beloved. Not only directors but notable actors and actresses (Penélope Cruz, Fernando Rey, Francisco Rabal, Antonio Banderas, Javier Bardem and Fernando Fernán Gómez) received the worldwide fame for a number of the best Spanish films. The first popular Spanish movies were released in 1897.
