The very first from Taiwan movies was shot by Toyojiro Takamatsu in 1901. During 1930s-1940s Taiwan cinema was under a huge influence of Japanese cinema. In 1960s Taiwan's authorities started to provide the "Health realism" dogma which had to help to built a new society. In 1980s few young directors began to make New Wave Taiwan films. There were the best Taiwan movies about urban problems and life in the countryside as it was. Hou Hsiao-Hsien's A City of Sadness, Edward Yang's Taipei Story (1985) and A Confucian Confusion (1994) - this is New Wave Taiwan movies list. One of them Vive L'Amour (1994) directed by Tsai Ming-liang received the Golden Lion at the Venice film Festival. Ang Lee is one the most known director of the New Wave. His film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) was screened all over the world. Another successful film is Cape No. 7 shot by Wei Te-Sheng. It was announced as competitor at the 68th Venice International Film Festival and it was selected for nomination for the 84th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film in 2011. Laichun, her father and two mothers, uncle and grandfather are of different generations; thus they all think differently.
